Retractable Tonneau Cover - A Review
If you don't need your truck bed covered all the time, a retractable tonneau cover may be just the thing for you. This cover is usually made of aluminum panels only a few inches wide that extend from one side of the truck bed to the other side. As you retract the cover toward the front, most retractable tonneau covers will lock in place every ten or twelve inches. That way the front part of the bed remains covered and the rear part is open.
Most of these retractable tonneau covers retract into a cylinder at the front of the bed though some retract as flat panels. Most retract manually, but some are motorized. The mount for a retractable cover is normally flush or barely above the top of the bed sides, out of sight. Another feature of many covers is an integral lock and latch system separate from the tailgate lock.
One example of a top-of-the-line retractable tonneau cover is the Pace Edwards BedLocker as pictured here.
The bed cover is of aluminum, black powder coated for long life. Hands full? No problem. This one's remote controlled so just a push of the button rolls the cover forward and it stops at any point. It's a flush-mounted installation that you clamp in and no drilling is needed.
A cover like this one is about as theft proof as you can get. Lock this one up and you've got a real vault to protect whatever you're hauling.
The cover won't freeze up in the winter and won't collapse with snow.
